We Heart Trash!

On this sunny Sunday afternoon, the girls once again donned some attractive orange vests to clean up Fast Eddy's mile. Only four girls were available to work, so the mile took longer than usual. But luckily the girls had beautiful weather, which made the trashy stroll a little more pleasant. Everyone was very sleepy by the time we were through!

Birrrrrrrrrrd Festival

Yes - the Bird Festival was a chilly event for us! It started out as a beautiful day in the morning - however, by the time we showed up to sell burgers, dogs, and baked goods, the day had turned windy and chilly. The girls stuck it out though, and even though the Festival had a lower turnout than usual the girls put out some good food, good service, and managed to have a good time in the process.

Who's got talent? We do!

And another successful fundraiser done! The GAP program was nice enough to give us the opportunity to run the talent show this year. GAP has the whole thing planned out, so basically they gave us a sheet of directions to follow about how to run the show and we just did it! GAP handled all the applications, the schedule, the programs, judging, and the prizes. We just did the legwork - and boy did it pay off! The girls did a great job and the GAP directors and community members had nothing but high praise about how smoothly the show ran and how organized we were - another great job girls!

Thanks to Cole Johnson for his help and technical expertise in running the sound system for us!

One trashy mile down!

Luckily the girls had a beautiful evening for cleaning up what we hope is our first of several highway mile clean-ups. The girls, along with some help from Jaycee's brother Colton, picked up every scrap of trash along AP&T's mile in about an hour.
Naturally, everyone loves the fancy orange DOT safety vests they get to wear for the Adopt-A-Highway miles!

Garbage $$$$

Garbage is translating into money for the French class this spring. So far, the girls have picked up trash at the Chevron lot, and are scheduled to pick up trash on AP&T and Fast Eddy's Adopt-
A-Miles. On Saturday, the girls spent 3 hours picking up trash that has blown out of the land fill and into the surrounding woods - yuk!

It generated a LOT of discussion about plastic usage - especially plastic grocery bags, of which they picked hundreds out of the trees!

Stacking wood!

The girls and their parents have spent a good part of the winter of 2009/2010 fundraising for our trip to France in August of 2010. Among the many many fundraising activities they have worked, some are; concessions at several events, t-shirt sales, taco sales, cake walks, bake sales, car washes, school bus washing, and raffles.

The most recent activity involved stacking approximately 13 cords of wood for Mr. Crozier -

Look at all that wood! The girls worked hard and non-stop for around 3 hours to get all of this done!

Coming up - it's TRASH season! Ms. Weisz attended DOT's safety training for highway cleanup, and we have several clean-up jobs coming up - we'll be posting about those soon!
